Why teach young learners
Children and teenagers make up the largest group of English learners in the world, especially in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. Schools, kindergartens, academies and online platforms all need teachers who can keep young learners engaged and make progress visible to parents.

- Positive correction and child-friendly assessment
- Classroom management and routines for lively classes
- Creative activities: songs, stories, games and movement
Teaching children online
Online children's classes need energy, props, clear gestures and short activities. The same principles of routine, praise and visual support apply. If you plan to teach children online, combine this course with the 120-hour Certificate and see our guide to teaching English online.
Age range
London College of Teachers' pages describe the course both as for learners up to age 16 and for ages 3 to 12. Ask admissions to confirm the focus before you enrol.
How it fits your pathway
Young Learners is a stand-alone 60-hour course and one of the specialisms inside the Advanced Diploma. Most teachers combine it with the 120-hour TEFL Certificate.
A sample young-learner lesson
A lesson for eight-year-olds might open with a song, introduce five animal words with pictures and actions, practise them with a game, use them in a short story and finish with a quick, positive review. The course shows you how to plan short, varied stages that keep children focused.
Time and cost
The course is 60 hours, designed for up to 4 months, and costs US$130, £110 or ₹9,000 plus GST.
